Danube Bend River Cruises from Budapest with Lunch
The Danube Bend trip from Budapest is a lovely experience. The trip to the river Danube Bend combines a bus tour and a cruise. The river cruise is from Szentendre to Budapest with a stunning entrance into the romantic and historical city of Budapest from the north. The first part of the tour is by bus, the second part of the tour is by boat. There are no boat only tours to the Danube Bend as the attractions of the Danube Bend, which are well worth a visit, are atop the hills soaring over the river Danube. The cruises are only run from May 01 to September 30, when the river is high enough for cruise ships. From October 1 to April 30 the Danube Bend tours are bus only tours due to the low tide of the river Danube.
Danube Bend AttractionsEsztergrom Tour in Danube Bend
The first stop of the Danube Bend tour is the town of Esztergom, where the beautiful cathedral of Esztergom called the Esztergom Basilica is the main attraction. Esztergom was once a royal seat too, similarly to Visegrad. The entrance fees to the attractions of Esztergom visited during the tour are included in the price.
True, Hungarian kings loved the beautiful views, the river Danube (also serving as a strategic defense), and the hills along the river. Both the Visegrad Castle and the Esztergom Basilica dominate the skyline and provide excellent views of the river Danube, the nearby villages, the green woods. Picturesque and beautiful.
Visegrad Tour in Danube Bend
The first stop of the Danube Bend Tour is in Visegrad, the medieval royal hilltop castle and romantic ruins of the fortification of King Matthias (please note that the bus only passes by the Visegrad Ruins, and the lunch in Visegrad is overlooking the Castle Ruins, but there is no scheduled visit inside or photo stop at the ruins).
3 Course Lunch Included
The 3 course traditional Hungarian lunch, included in the price of the Danube Bend tour, is a nice way to relax after walking in Visegrad and Esztergom. The views of the restaurant are over the Castle Ruins in Visegrad town.
Szentendre Tour
After the medieval royal towns in the Danube Bend, and the lovely lunch, the next stop of the tour is Szentendre, a hub of fine art, also reached by bus. There is a guided walking tour in the cobblestone streets of Szentendre, and in the Artists’ Village in Szentendre.
Szentendre is a lovely and colorful medieval and Baroque town by the river Danube, the gate keeper of the Danube Bend. Szentendre (named after Saint Andrew) has several nice attractions (churches, museums, e.g. Caprice, the Hungarian Jewelry Museum), and a good relaxing vibe. The tickets to the attractions of Szentendre visited during the tour are included in the price. There is a coffee and some soft drinks included in the Szentendre tour.

Hi, I am wondering how much walking there is on this tour, Mainly if there is much uphill walking or steps. Thank you
Dear Thomas,
thank you for your inquiry. The main walking part is in Szentendre, without any uphill routes or stairs.
Good afternoon,
We are staying in an apartment outside the city centre. Where is the starting point of the tour for those not able to be picked up?
Thank you
Dear Diana,
if you do not wish to be picked up at your accomodation 30 minutes before the tour, you can join the tour 10 min before departure at the Meeting Point.
The Meeting Point is 5 min walk from the river Danube at Hotel Intercontinental Budapest city center, near the square by the Chain Bridge. (The exact address will be sent to you in the confirmation email.)

Looking forward to your reservation to the very popular Danube Bend Cruise.
Do you have the danube bend tour on dec 4(sunday)?
Hello Rowena,
thank you for contacting us.
When the river Danube has high tide from early May to late September, the fantastic Danube Bend tour is a Boat tour with Bus tour combined.
However, it is a Bus tour only from October to April.
The tour is running only on Saturdays in December, therefore I am afraid, there will not be one on 4 December.

Have a great time in Budapest.
Such a nice article about the Danube Bend! I’m planning a few days trip around Budapest, and friends told me that this place is really close, so one day could be there… But what I dont know, what is the best way to get from the airport to madrid city centre? I don’t want to lose much time of travelling and getting lost… How are the taxis? And the transfers? I found this company: transfer2airports http://budtransfer.com/ do you know anything about them? Is the public transport easy enough? Thank you a lot!
Dear PttShn,
thank you for your inquiry.
The public transport to and from Liszt Ferenc Airport is easy.
From 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., bus number 200E commutes between Terminal 2 and the Kobanya-Kispest metro terminal (metro line M3), via the Ferihegy train station (trains to the Nyugati railway station in Budapest).
From the Kobanya-Kispest metro terminal, you can take the M3 metro towards Ujpest Kozpont to reach the city center. It is possible to change to metro lines M1 and M2 at the Deak Ferenc ter stop in the inner city.
Starting September 1, 2013 the system of taxi regulation is in effect in Budapest; all taxis must be painted yellow, all must have a standardized meter and rates, all must have a lighted TAXI sign on their roof to show when they are available. They are no longer able to charge flat rates and always must work off the meter with a standard fare of 450 Forints to start and 280 per additional km of driving, 70 per waiting time minute.
Fo Taxi, one of the most well-known taxi company in Hungary has a booth inside the terminal, and will get you to the city center for about 6000-8000 HUF (€22-30 depending on exchange rate and distance).
